The story of Solrød Lakrids is a tale of passion for good craftsmanship. It begins with a desire to create a licorice in the difficult, traditional way with the real licorice flavor that we know from nature.
Founder Bent Nybo was born with a respect for good craftsmanship. As the son of a mother in the delicatessen industry, he learned from childhood how much understanding of production methods, craftsmanship and patience mean for the quality and taste of the final product. Based on this understanding, Bent built the popular restaurant and catering company Nybo's in Solrød.
Although the food adventure was a success, another dream haunted the restaurateur – namely the dream of using his insight into the interplay between craftsmanship, quality and taste to produce a licorice with a unique taste from natural ingredients. The dream could not be ignored, and in 2021 Bent launched the licorice adventure, with all sorts of experiments at home in the kitchen.
Ten months, several hundred kilos of liquorice and countless tastings later, Bent Nybo had a product he was proud of. The patience had paid off, because the result lived up to the desire to give each bite as much natural liquorice flavour as possible – an unadulterated and honest taste of good ingredients and a natural, unpolished consistency with a soft bite that melts on the tongue and develops in the mouth.
The citizens of Solrød and the surrounding area quickly fell in love with the licorice, which of course had to be named after its hometown. Today, Solrød Licorice is sold in delicatessens, specialty stores and lifestyle stores throughout the country, as well as in our webshop.
