ROCKS Kongen af Solrød – a classic with liquorice in its blood

A king should, of course, have character.

Kongen af Solrød is our own new interpretation of the classic Kongen af Danmark candy.

We've taken the familiar, sweet flavour of anise and given it a Solrød twist with liquorice granules, adding extra depth and liquorice character.

The result is a candy that feels familiar – yet has a flavour all its own.

A true local king.

Inspired by a Danish candy classic

The classic red anise candies have been known and loved for generations.

With Kongen af Solrød, we haven't tried to copy the classic.

Instead, we've taken the familiar flavour of anise and asked ourselves:

What happens if we give the king a little liquorice?

The answer was Kongen af Solrød.

A red anise candy with liquorice granules and a character all its own.

Sweet anise meets liquorice

The anise oil gives the candy the characteristic, aromatic flavour associated with classic red anise candy.

But then comes the liquorice.

The liquorice granules add depth and give the sweet anise flavour a darker contrast.

This means that Kongen af Solrød still has the familiar flavour of anise – but with a distinct touch of liquorice..

And that's exactly what makes our king unique.

Liquorice granules add extra character

Instead of simply letting the anise stand alone, we've added liquorice granules.

This gives the candy an extra dimension and makes the flavour experience more interesting as the candy slowly melts in your mouth.

First, the sweet and aromatic anise.

Then comes the liquorice, adding more depth.

A simple idea – but sometimes it's the small changes that make the biggest difference.

ROCKS is our range of candy that we make ourselves at Solrød Lakrids.

We cook the candy mixture and work with the flavours so that each variety gets its own character.

Sometimes, we stick to the classic flavours. Other times, we simply can't resist playing around with them a little.

Kongen af Solrød is a good example.

A Danish candy classic has been given a little liquorice – and moved to Solrød.

The name is, of course, no coincidence.

Since we're making our own version of an old Danish classic, we think it deserves a name of its own.

We have great respect for classic flavours.

With ROCKS, we want to make candy where the flavour is allowed to stand out.

Kongen af Solrød is our take on how an old classic can be given new life without losing what made it good in the first place.

We've simply given it a little liquorice.

And, of course, a new kingdom.

Storage

To preserve the delicious flavour and texture, we recommend storing Kongen af Solrød in a dry place and avoiding excessive heat.
